The History Channel launched on 1 November 1995 as a joint venture between A&E Television Networks and British Sky Broadcasting. With hundreds of hours of British television premieres a year, we offer the best in historic documentary and drama from around the world; reaching over 200 million TV households in more than 70 countries in over 20 languages.

We commission, co-produce and acquire programmes from the world’s leading producers and broadcasters including the BBC, Channel 4, Five, A&E, PBS and ZDF. Our worldwide events have proven to be hugely successful all across the globe, gaining critical acclaim, record breaking ratings and increasing brand awareness for advertisers.

Advertiser Funded Programming

Advertiser funded programming (AFP) offers a unique opportunity to communicate and reinforce your brand on The History Channel, beyond traditional on-air advertising means.

AFP offers powerful cross-marketing opportunities with The History Channel and is an opportunity for brands not allowed to advertise in commercial air-time. It can develop audience perception in a way that a 30 sec spot cannot and creates a media asset that can be used across a multi-media marketing campaign.

We have broken new ground in advertiser funded programming, with Ancestry.co.uk. The Hidden House History series includes a raft of community activities and initiatives, aimed at adding extra value for both the Ancestry.co.uk brand, and our viewers.

As part of the packages we can offer on-air options including sponsorship, promos, DRTV ad creation, programming interstitials, micro-website creation, banner ad campaigns, advertorials – online and in our newsletter and national PR.

Community Marketing

At The History Channel we pride ourselves on offering more than just quality programming. We offer our viewers the opportunity to get involved through discussion forums, viewer events, outdoor summer road shows, unique competitions (such as winning a trip down to the Titanic) and one of our many community projects (i.e. the Family History Project, www.thefamilyhistoryproject.co.uk). Viewers also kept up to date with e-newsletters, text alerts and History magazine.

We are privileged to work with some of Britain’s most prestigious museums and organisations such as Royal Armouries, Historic Royal Palaces, English Heritage, The Royal British Legion, the National Archives and Cutty Sark on marketing initiatives and joint projects that benefit the history community. See the news section for more information about our current projects.
