1. Introduction
Welcome to our online guide to researching your house history. This comprehensive resource is intended to help you take the first steps toward researching the history of your home.
To get the best results, follow this guide chronologically and print out the sections as you go. Don’t miss our ‘recommended websites’ section at the end of the guide.
Before you start you might want to find out when your house was built. If you haven’t got this information as part of your house records then there are many ways in which you could find out – you can check architectural features, old maps and archive records. These details are all outlined below.
HINT: Dr Jonathan Foyle’s architectural features guide can help you to date your house. You may also wish to examine old maps to try and work out when your house was built.
